git init fujoguide
Pre-work
The often-unseen work of figuring out the work: locking in concepts, mapping out tasks and blockers, and tallying up our funding so we know how much we have available. And did we mention...creating this very website?

First Draft
Time to, as we say, "git working"! Here, we dove deep into outlines, explanations, surrounding content... then scrapped it all, reworking this foundational-but-malleable material into a hands-on learning adventure (that is, a Yaoi-tastic™ dress-up game).

Zine Maker
To make a zine (that is really a book), a developer must first code their own zine maker. This powerful tool (that is really an Astro website) lets us use our web skills while writing, then turns our HTML, CSS, and Markdown into multi-format zines when shipping!
- Done: built an Astro-based zine maker
- Done: added browser zine preview
- Done: prototyped printable zine(s) export
Art Wave
With the concept set, we get to commission more art: clothes for HTML, a cover for the zine, and—at the center of our scenario—some choice artisanal sketches by our lead... writer. We'll bring in the real professionals once we're closer to final print!
- Done: Scenario art locked-in jokes
- Done: Commissioned HTML's clothes
- Done: Created cover art concept
Issue 1 (Beta 1)
The zine's first review round, featuring our ethically-sourced Git newcomers. Feedback is critical at this point: everything is still subject to change if that's what our glorious (and generous) beta readers ask for! Their verdict? Fun, approachable, “like a legit textbook”.

Launched learn@fujoweb.dev
Our home for free FujoGuide material is born! Our first zine beta revealed an important constraint: we made learning Git fun, but figuring out a Terminal...still not quite! So, instead of putting these fundamental skills in a zine, we built a free learning site where everyone can pick them up.
- Done: Deployed Astro Starlight site
- Done: Fundraised for more guides
- Done: Wrote guide to the Terminal
Issue 1 (Beta 2)
Precious feedback in hand, our production machine smoothly turns. This time, our betas get a rubric to guide their feedback—and bond over passionate arguments on comma placement (it's how you know they're having fun)! In the end, there's no need for an extra round.

Getting more Gits
How do you fill more volumes? With more Gits, of course! With preparations for Issue 2 on the horizon, we start expanding our "panthe(r)on" of Git-based characters.
- Done: Designed GitLab
- Done: Designed Gitea
- Done: Designed Forgejo
Digital Preview Assembly
It's go time! Last round of revisions to catch pesky typos and other tiny inconsistencies, plus helping our callout boxes (and terminals) survive page breaks...featuring a few textual tweaks to avoid ugly page gaps. This is when the lore pages get designed, and our back cover is born. One thought carries us forward: everything we did here will carry over to Issue 2!

Shipped issue 1 digital preview
After a lot of work, our backers finally get to hold the zine in their hands! The zip folder is heavy, but chock-full of goods: printable zines come foldable like a real zine booklet, or as half/full-page PDFs that look as great on screens as they do on paper. Not to mention, everything is available in both A4 and Letter, to be enjoyed all over the world!

Issue 2 1st Draft
As Issue 1 gets its round of praise and feedback, we charge ahead with issue 2! This issue is a step up in complexity, adding topics like branches, remote, and merges...and, even more scary, rebases! But where there's a will, there's a way—and that way (as we know) is hot fictional characters and the websites that celebrate them.

Boba-tan's Sexyman Shrine
To fully commit to the bit, our yaoi-brained protagonist must first be given her own blorbo-filled website. What better way to invite people to learn than to invite them to play around with a real, 00s-web inspired character shrine, featuring our very own Funblr Sexyman?
- Done: built shrine layout
- Done: added lore sections
- Done: sprinkled small site challenges
Learn Site Expansion
Our free learning resources grows beyond the terminal: not only we add sections for JavaScript and NodeJS, but for the very first time we hire community contributors to do so!
- Done: Hired community contributors for writing
- Done: Experimented with writing process
- Done: Added new sections to learn@
Issue 2 (Beta 1)
Back at it again with our favorite assembly of Betas (outside of fanfictions, at least)! With the process now worked out, our beta coordinators swiftly gather them in a not-so-secret group chat lair to uncover frustrations and ensure everything is smooth—even when the content isn't.

Issue 1 Limited Sale
Issue 1 is out, but only for backers...until we bring out the preview to our first con for its first, exclusive pre-sale! After it swiftly outsells every paddle and tote on the table (yes, even those emblazoned with "yaoi"), we make pre-sale at special events a regular part of our presence.
- Done: Sell preview printouts at our first con
- Done: Add secret unlisted direct-link items
- Done: Sell digital preview at online events
Issue 2 Restructuring
Much like with Issue 1, our beta readers raved about Issue 2. But unlike Issue 1, their feedback showed a "sure, I was confused at times, but that's just me" undercurrent. Not in this zine! Rejecting the easy "it's not your zine, it's me" explanation, we poke and prod at issue 2's structure until it's tamed.

learn@ GitHub edition
Not everything lives between two covers—and some of the content cut from our restructured Issue 2, sure didn't need to! Instead, it gets a roomier home on learn@, where anyone can read it and find it...useful.
- Done: Wrote "Connecting to GitHub via CLI"
- Done: Wrote "Connecting to GitHub with SSH"
- Pending: Final typos and content review
Issue 2 (Pre)²view
It's time to put our work back into readers' hands—and this time, we go almost-straight to our backers! Our (pre)²view turns a slice of the newly-restructured Issue 2 into a public Beta: enough material to show off the zine restructure(which we're so proud of!), get real feedback on the new flow, and give everyone a fun new scenario to play with right away.
